2009- the year that was

Postby roy on Fri Jan 08, 2010 10:05 am

Anyone have any favorites from 2009?

I would like to give a shout out to The Generationals Con Law album. Tom mentioned it in his year end list on the spinto-blog, and I'm pretty sure we have been talking this album up a bunch. We had the pleasure of getting to know these guys on a tour and they are as nice as their music.

Half the album is available here: http://generationals.bandcamp.com/

I seem to be doing/watching/listening to less as I get older, so in some cases "favourite" may mean "only".

Favourite Album: Generationals - "Con Law", because I'm easily influenced. I didn't have much of a summer in 2009, but at least I had a soundtrack! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a UK tour this year.

Favourite Live Show (80s Nostalgia Category): The Cult at Leeds Academy, because it had the potential to be rubbish, but it wasn't.

The Most Fun I Had Whilst Sitting Down: The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain at my local theatre. Almost every song you could think of, played on ukeleles. Well worth seeing if you get the chance.

Only...erm...I mean Favourite Film: "Nowhere Boy", which covers John Lennon's teenage years. The people who had turned up expecting "A Hard Day's Night" didn't find much to laugh at, but it was brilliantly acted and quite intense in places.

This year, I think I'll take the advice of magic.bus and learn to play farkle!

Magic Bus- the fitty rule is a rule to make the game a bit more difficult and a lot more entertaining. When implemented, it means you can only end your turn when your score ends with 50. Therefor if you roll a 2000, you need to roll again in attempt to get a 5 (scored 50). When someone rolls a super big score, but their total points for that turn does not end in 50, it is the opponents job to state "don't mean shitty if you aint got a fitty!"

It forces the players to keep rolling and potentially losing huge scores.

Where's the love for 'Up' ?!

That film was amazing, easily one of the best Disney films I've seen in years.
