The New Album

White noise: does it count as music?

The New Album

I'll let you admin types decide if I'm a little premature in starting a thread about the new album, but I wanted to say how much I love the recording updates idea! They're just the right length to be interesting, without giving too much away.

On the other hand, this may just be a ruse to convince me that they aren't recording a bagpipe trip-hop concept album based on the entire Westlife back-catalogue...

I wouldn't say any discussion here is premature -- they are after all coming out with those neat little updates so it's all fair game to talk about. We didn't know anything that isn't meant to be released to the world...

I enjoyed checking out those two videos so far. I liked the rhythm track sans Jeff video. It was fun to see Sam on drums. Reminiscent of McCartney's sometime drum work on studio tracks?

I'm also very excited to find out the "recording progress" on YouTube!
I really can't wait for the new album!

I really like the latest update with the fake timpani. I lug various percussion instruments around for a living, mostly timpani, and however powerful the real ones sound, they are a massive pain in the ass. The largest-sized one doesn't fit through most doorways and you have to take the wheels off of it, pick it up and turn it on its side just to be able to squeeze it into a room. Being able to fake a timpani in a nice, compact way is very cool. Can you control the pitch/tuning on the fake timps?

Elliott Carter's Eight Pieces for Four Timpani is a really neat work which explores all the various sounds and uses of timpani.

It would be so much easier to press a button labelled "every percussion effect you could ever imagine" (either a very big button or very small print) but it wouldn't look or sound a fraction as interesting!

Am I the only one to think this would make an awesome new song?

I have no idea if it will actually be out before 2011, but I know I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm hoping that there will be enough time to either finish and release the album or tour the UK/Europe (even just a little bit) before the end of the year.

I'm guessing that they won't have time to do both, though.

Can I just say I am loving the new recording updates. That is all. They rock. You rock. End of story

The background vocal one was particularly hilarious/insightful.
